History
The
Deer Watch Inn grew in stages. It began life in the 18th century as
a small country cottage. As the years went by, various additions were
made to the original structure. In the days of travel by horse and
carriage, rail and steamship the old homestead became a boarding house.
It served in this capacity for a few decades until once again it was
used as a private residence - but only in the summer as a refuge from
the heat.
Beginning
in the1960's with winterization and indoor plumbing the property has
improved and once again is ready to welcome guests.
We
have five bedrooms, all with private baths and three large comfortable
common rooms available for our visitors. The lush grounds and gardens
offer spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains. Relax in a swing
under a tree or on the wraparound porch overlooking the large pond
where you can hand feed the beautiful Japanese Koi as they put on
their colorful displays.
On
cool nights you'll find a crackling fire in the wood stove in our
sun room where you can enjoy watching wildlife graze the grounds.
